his ultimate goal in F1 is to return to the parent team, Red Bull Racing, as Sergio Pérez’s replacement.
However, during the winter testing, the Australian was keen to appear serious, focused, and even loyal. He does not want to rush things and intends to first concentrate on the 2024 season with RB F1.
Already, Ricciardo is immensely enjoying having secured a principal seat in F1 again…
“I’m looking at the bigger picture,” he says.
“Right now, at the start of a new season, returning to Red Bull isn’t something that’s on my mind. I respect my current position and the long season ahead.”
“For me to return to the front of the grid, the best approach is to try to push this car as hard as possible and to have weekends like Mexico last year (7th place, editor’s note) and, obviously, to do so more consistently. Then, we’ll see what happens.”
“But for now, I’m focusing on my current situation. I’m trying to reestablish myself in F1. I feel like I started to do that a bit last year by coming back into the sport, but there are a lot of races this year to try to do that and to prove it to myself.”
“I enjoyed not being here last year because I had peace of mind, but a year later, I’m oddly very happy to be here for the pre-season tests.”
“I just want to race, which has always been true, but yes, I’m really looking forward to it. It’s great. Yes, I like the atmosphere.”
Furthermore, could Daniel Ricciardo not aim for significant results this year with this RB F1, said to be very, or even too close, to the Red Bull…?
Why not aim for podiums rather than 7th places?
“I would like to say yes!”
“But the truth is, we’re trying to build something at the moment. This year, our team is really trying to establish itself and fly on its own.”
“And then, it’s trying to fight at the top of the midfield. I think podiums are a bit, probably a wish, for the time being, more than a reality, but as the year progresses, we will improve, hoping to get closer to the front.”
